Tambor Beach and Curu Wildlife Reserve
Playa Tambor is set in the valley of a large and peaceful bay, Bahia Ballena, which means Whale Bay. This extraordinarily beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay was the visiting ground for whales traveling from the North during winter. The beaches have soft sand and shallow waters, perfect for swimming and enjoying the Pacific Ocean waves. Forested hills surround the bay, part of a national Costa Rican biological corridor, the Curu Wildlife Reserve. This Wildlife reserve offers five ecological habitats to explore.
Due to increasing marine traffic, whales aren’t seen very often in Bahia Ballena. But the bay’s amazing, gradually descending floor invites even the timidest swimmers to enjoy calm and safe waters.
