The natural beauty, climate, exuberance of Costa Rican mountains are seducing more and more couples who have decide to retire in Costa Rica. The National University, one of the country’s most prestigious, lies east of the city, lending an academic air to the small cafes and restaurants that line the sidewalks. In addition, several renowned Bilingual Schools (with international recognition) and Spanish-language institutes are located in Heredia, combining cultural immersion with language classes.
Heredia’s location is key; it is close to the city but also has the best of the country side.Taxes and services (Water, Electricity, etc.) are inexpensive.
Look foward: The quality of people, national and foreign (including the expatriates community).
Excellent education, both public and private. Well known international schools like Lincoln School, European School and the Christian School. Some of them work with American schedule and the others with Costa Rican Schedule. Heredia and the suburbs set up shop for traditional open-air farmer’s markets, which offer tropical fruits and local vegetables, in addition to North American favorites.
Downtown Heredia is said to be the safest city in Costa Rica. Though surrounded by incredible beauty – soaring mountains, verdant rainforest, a towering volcano, rushing rivers and expansive coffee fields. Heredia has all the services available, like banks, supermarkets, restaurants, malls, nice gyms, affordable personal trainings, spa, massage, Taichi center, yoga places, and more.
Because is a university city we have many affordable houses for rent and also inexpensive Costa Rican restaurants. The Cariari Country Club has its own golf course, one that is considered among the best in Costa Rica and in Central America. Also there is Castillo Country Club.
One of my clients once said: "Living in Heredia makes me feel like part of a big family, people reminds me when I come back to places and when I go to the mall or to the Automercado, I always find people I know."
University towns are more eclectic and varied. Surrounded by professionals. Heredia has train service to San Jose and 4 different buses services every 2 minutes, four different access from the high way (San Isidro – Autopista Braulio Carrillo, the old route from Santo Domingo - Tibas, through - La Uruca, San Antonio de Belen- Autopista General Cañas).
There are no fancy and expensive restaurants like in San José but in Heredia is Spring all year around, with fresh air and green gardens.
We have mountains (Barba, San Rafael, San Isidro, and Santa Barbara) and also flat areas like San Joaquin de Flores, Santo Domingo. The temperature difference between these areas is of one or two degrees.
During the summer it is a little windy and it rains less but in the mountains the gardens awake covered in dew. During the winter it rains on the afternoons.
The Braulio Carrillo National Park and the INBIO PARK are amazing theme park that offers an interactive experience with Nature.
