Regular play in the so-called opening tournament of the First Division soccer league is over and, frankly, we are at sea in trying to understand what is happening as various clubs maneuver for position. It all comes of trying to squeeze more money-making games into the schedule and trying to make it all seem more important. So, anyone want to tell me just what’s going on?

Take, for example, the Santa Barbara de Heredia club, Carmelita. They defeated a lackluster Brujas (Escazu) side yesterday 1-0, but sportswriters (who must all have accounting degrees) tell us that Carmelita needed more goals to win something or other in the tourney because they were down 9-3 in overall goals against Puntarenas.

So, until someone explains or a celestial revelation strikes us, we will inform you that Alejandro Gonzalez made Carmelita’s only goal at minute 29. The Brujas’s Mauricio Wright was expelled with two yellow warnings about which he is quite bitter.
