Puntarenas Takes Lead; Alajuela With Key Victory

With a 1-0 victory at home, Puntarenas took the lead over Saprissa in their semi-final matchup.  Fans at the “Magic Pot” did their job helping the “Pearls of the Pacific” to take care of business over traditional favorite Saprissa.  Roberto Wong scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute after an assist by Rafael Nuñez.  The figure of the match was goalie Shane Orio of Puntarenas, who made 2 enormous saves in the second half to prevent a tie. The next match will be Sunday in Saprissa Stadium at 11 am.

Alajuela had a very successful visit to the south, bringing back a 2-0 win that they will put to good use on Friday when they host Perez Zeledon in the second leg.  Although they aren’t considering the victory a sure thing, since the “Southern Warriors” eliminated Heredia after losing the first match in that series 3-0. The “Liga” isn’t Heredia though, and the southerners will have a hard time coming back in the second match, scheduled for Friday at 8 pm.
