On Wednesday and Thursday things didn’t work out very well for the Costa Rican teams in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
Saprissa visited Toluca and left with a 2 - 0 defeat. They face a tough match on Sunday at local group leader Puntarenas, but at least will have a chance to reverse fortunes at home. This has been something of a specialty for them, so no one is counting them out yet.
Alajuela hosted another Mexican squad, America and dominated the match in every phase, except the scoreboard. Which is arguably the most important phase of the sport. Alajuela dominated completely the first half and created several chances to score, however was unable to convert on any of them. America coach Manuel de La Puente brought in the big guns for the second half and it paid off immediately as America scored early. Alajuela came back to tie, but America converted another goal. The remainder of the match Alajuela again dominated without scoring.
Alajuela visits Mexico City on Wednesday and will play at 6 pm, while Saprissa will play at 8 pm the same day.
