Despite a valiant effort, the under-17 team was eliminated by Mexico yesterday. The Ticos were only 3 minutes away from pulling off a huge upset. They were up 1-0 on an own goal by the Mexicans at 21 minutes in the second half. After a defensive first half, the Ticos showed some initiative in the second half and forced the own goal on a corner kick.

However in a last gasp effort, the Mexicans got a lucky break on a shot by Efraín Valdez, which was deflected by Bryan Jimenez, so that the goalie Alfonso Quesada had no chance. In the overtime the Mexican scored 2 goals early to decide the match.
