Red Alert for Crimson Tide
Costa Ricans and authorities are on alert for the dangerous red tide that is currently affecting Nicaragua. The red tide is a concentration of marine organisms that generates toxins harmful to mollusks and shellfish.
Tourists or residents in areas affected by a red tide, should not eat seafood caught in the area. The Vigilance Commission in Costa Rica monitors coastal waters and mollusks monthly, and takes even more comprehensive samples when on alert.
