Drivers flocked to gasoline stations on Sunday to beat the rate hike. The driver of a small car with a 45 liter tank could save 2,295 colones on a fill up versus the Monday’s new prices. The hike was a steep ¢51 per liter for super and regular gas, while it was only ¢18 per liter of diesel.
Super went from ¢475 to ¢526, Regular from ¢453 to ¢504 and Diesel from ¢326 a ¢344. This was the highest one time hike since 2002, and was due to international petroleum prices.
HIGH DEMAND
Some filling stations sold 15,000 liters more of fuel with respect to a normal Sunday.
