The Association of Gas Distributors, and others, protested the ARESEP plan to allow flexibility in the price of gasoline. The proposal calls for a reduction of up to 50% in the profit margin for gas stations. The plan will go to a public audience Monday at 9 am. Users, of course, are generally in favor of the measure.
The gas distributors say that the "competition" will favor the big multinationals like Shell and Total, who can absorb losses while they drive small, independent gas station owners out of business. According to their calcultions, users would only save 1 Colon per liter in any case.
