The NGO Surfrider has announced plans to include Tamarindo Beach in Guanacaste in its projects for 2006.  The foundation promotes beach clean up, environmental education, coral reef protection and clean water worldwide.  Louis Maresca, representative of Surfrider in Tamarindo, stressed that the high impact of surfing in the local economy of the community was a factor in the selection of Tamarindo.  "We have to preserve the natural beauty of the beach with high ecological standards, … so that more and more surfers will continue to come here". 

There will be a meeting on January 18th at the Best Western Vista Villas in Tamarindo to discuss the project, so that the local community can participate in the effort.
