Recently I had a conversation with one of the Sky-employees about changing equipments WITHOUT ANY CHARGES THEY SAY. Now listen to that. If in the past you have bought your equipment from DIRECTV, as soon as SKY comes to change it, you have to pay rent for the SKY equipment. THAT MEANS, FIRST OF ALL, All the equipment owners SHOULD NOT LET THEM TAKE THE OLD RECEIVERS as they might sell them to other countries, and also, REFUSE TO PAY RENT. All the equipment owners together should go to court in order to get indemnization for the PURCHASED DIREC TV EQUIPMENT IF IT IS STILL WORKING O.K. I bought my equipment in FEBRUARY 2007 and they did not say a word about CHANGING TO SKY IN 8 MONTHS, and then having to pay rent for SOMETHING I OWN.

I am a DirecTV client and have never been satisfied with their customer service or attitude. I no longer call them, I have my wife do it. Otherwise I end up yelling at them. I agree 100% with you and am glad I have always rented the equipment. They came a few weeks ago and replaced my equipment for no charge. They did not remove the dish, only the channel box and remote. The service is very similar, there are a few more channels and the navigation system has some advantages, while in many ways the old system was better too.

Anyway good luck and if any other satellite provider wants to provide service here there is plenty of opportunity.

Don't let the change over fool you. The change is by design of CAFTA. It is a ploy of the USA to start the brainwashing process for the introduction of CAFTA. This Norte American gimick is introducing you to the arrray of goods products and services that will be coming to Costa Rica. It is a brainwashing process I call marketing myosis. It is taking away the emphasis of your South American neighbors and their commercials to mainstream the USA crap they want you to buy. No longer will you enjoy the Shakira UNICEF commercials that brought tears to my eyes. No longer will you see the Venesuela Feliz Navidad commercials of the children playing their violins.
They will give you jobs and have you spend your hard earn money on the crap they offer and intice you to buy things you don't need. CAFTA is just a trick of the USA. And introducing you to the North American lifestyle and products is just the beginning of bad things to come for Costa Rica.
Yes I too was furious when my purchased equipment BECAME worthless. At least I had the sense to retain my boxes. Foregt your elections. It will do you no good. CAFTA IS COMING NO MATTER HOW YOU VOTE. AND sky tv is helping to plant the brainwashing seed to spend your money their way.
AND the NFL Sunday Ticket was doubled???? And they are showing the commercials instead of the NFL jinge!!

I am not convinced that Sky in particular is a propaganda machine for CAFTA in particular, but I agree that globalization is coming (or has come) to Costa Rica with or without the trade agreement.

In my opinion the good thing about the referendum is that Costa Ricans are thinking about this trade agreement in a serious way. I think most people are aware that the basic issue is whether the country wants to give up some of its sovereignty in order to have a stronger access to the US market and reduced tariffs on many imported items.

So even if the agreement is passed, I think that the NO people have garnered enough support so that they may be able to mitigate some of the negative scenarios they have outlined in explaining their position. Whether or not it passes, there will continue to be discussions and arguments on these same issues. It will force Costa Rica to decide what kind of development they want and what kind of a price they are willing to pay in order to protect the environment and the social institutions that have fostered the country's development in the past.

so anyway SKY is coming Monday and my husband and I had already decided not to give them the directTV equip and it is costing us more plus they are telling us there is a mandatory "warranty" charge of about $24/year in case we ever need service. what a racket and I can't even find a website for SKY to complain to.
