The “Fat One” favored number 40 this year and lucky winners had a series of 617.  According to statistics kept by the JPS and the results of the drawing held last night in the Plaza de la Cultura, the winners this year purchased tickets.   This prize was the fastest to appear, coming up only 2 minutes after the drawing had begun.  The number 40 was fitting, since the last time it won was also the last year Oscar Arias was elected.

With a 2-0 home win, Saprissa advanced to the finals on a global score of 2-1.  In the series neither team was able to make an away goal, which in the end favored Saprissa as the team that closed at home.

Alonso Solís was the hero, with a goal on a free kick after only 4 minutes of play.  He also played a  large part in the Bolaños goal in the 87th minute, dribbling through 3 defenders and then passing to his open teammate.
The referee was too visible in the game, not calling two clear fouls in the penalty area:

- In the first half, Puntarenas goalie Shane Orio knocked down Alejandro Alpizar and Mena did not call it.
- In the 68th minute, “the Arrow” Barboza was held by the jersey and the referee did not see it either.
- In the 83rd Saprissa goalie Jose Francisco Porras tripped forward Vicente Rocela, Mena marked the foul but gave the keeper a yellow card when the merited an expulsion.
The final matches will played at 8pm, on Wednesday in Tibas and on Saturday in Alajuela.  The winner of the series will be crowned champion of the Opening Phase Tournament.  If the same team wins the next Tournament, then they will be champions.  Otherwise this week’s winner earns the right to play the winner of the next tournament in the Grand Final.
