PAC presented yesterday four government bills to tax casinos, sportbooks, offshorebanks and cars that cost more than ¢7 million (about $15000). In addition, the group promotes another eight bills whose purpose is to exercise “a greater control of public spending”, as explained by the ex-presidential candidate Ottón Solís.
Solís explained that the taxes were already part of a contingency plan in 2005 and that PAC wants to revive them because they had a positive effect on tax collection.
The casinos tax is a monthly payment of between 4 and 8 base salaries, depending on the hours they open. Each gaming table must pay 6 base salaries per month.
Sportsbooks would pay an annual license of between 15 million and 28 million colones, depending on how many employees they have. (from $30,000 to $ 60,000)
Vehícles that cost over ¢7 million would pay a surcharge equivilant to pagar un recargo equivalente al 50% del impuesto a la propiedad.
