In honor of Canada Day on Saturday, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officer Kane von Kramer is in Costa Rica, where he visited three schools in Desamparados, south of San José, yesterday, according to a statement from the Canadian Embassy.
During the school visits, Kane answered curious students’ questions about Canada and gave them tips on self-defense as part of an RCMP program to prevent violence among schoolchildren. The three schools he visited in Desamparados are sponsored by the Canadian government as part of the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour.
Today Kane is scheduled to visit kids at San José’s National Children’s Hospital, and Saturday he will be celebrating with his compatriots at the Canada Day picnic at the Cervecería Nacional in Alajuela, west of San José.
Kane, who speaks English, French, Spanish and Italian, will also take part in activities at the capital’s National Children’s Museum Sunday, where Costa Rican children will be able to participate in a contest RCMP is sponsoring to name six baby colts to be born this spring at its breeding farm in Ontario.
