Next week taxi fares will rise, according to a resolution issued by ARESEP. The new rates:

The first kilometer goes from ¢330 to ¢350, and each extra kilometer will cost ¢320.

The 6.06 per cent increase will take effect when it is published in La Gaceta, the official newspaper.

A 10 kilometer trip will cost ¢200 more, going from ¢3,030 to ¢3,230, assuming an average speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

Special Services

Service for disabled passengers will go from ¢330 a ¢350 for the first kilometer and each additional from ¢290 to ¢310.

The rates for rural services are more expensive, so each additional kilometer will go from ¢330 to ¢350.

Taxi fares are adjusted bi-annually, in February and August.

ARESEP advised users that these rates are 24 hours, as there is no surcharge for late pickups or rush hour rides.  The meter should be used by the driver on every trip, no matter what time of day.
