Yesterday, at midday, an Unidentified Flying Object was spotted over San José.  Hundreds of people observed for over 1 hour a giant, glowing globe. The luminous object was easy to see as it moved slowly through the  clear blue sky. Police officers at the scene tried to calm bystanders saying it was a satellite, a reflection of Mars or space station tracks.

Wálter Fernández, an astrophysicist, put forth the theory that it was one of the weather balloon launched daily from the airport at 6 am, 12 noon, 6 pm and midnight.  The Meteorological Institute confirmed that they launch the probes, however indicated that they travel in a westerly direction so it would be very difficult for people in San José to see them.

Diario Extra consulted with Astronomer Victor Fung on possible explanations.  The first two theories were that the object was the planet Venus, which is sometimes visible in the daylight or that it was a satellite owned by Iridium.  However, upon further investigation both possibilities were ruled out. The location in the sky eliminated the possibility that it was Venus, and Iridium had no satellite pass programmed for Costa Rica at that time.

The air traffic control tower at Juan Santamaria Airport did not register any unknown objects and pilots did not report sighting any UFOs either.

Which leaves only Gilda Aburto, UFO Investigator interviewed by Al Dia with the only sure explanation.  According to Aburto space ships have been visiting Costa Rica more frequently in the last week.  "No one can deny that UFOs exist. This means that they want to warn us of something.", she said.

Aburto added that Costa Rica has a special energy that the aliens want to protect.  She also indicated that the giant wave seen in the Pacific on Wednesday could have been due to alien experiments, since they frequently investigate the ocean and tectonic plates.
