Businesses and the City of San Pedro Montes de Oca are making plans to increase security on the famous "Calle de la Armargura" in San Pedro. A group of bar owners has banded together to hire a private security company that will install 12 cameras along the street and a 24 hour monitoring service. They will report to the police suspicious activities and any violence. The local police have agreed to respond with priority to calls from the area and are trying to establish a permanent patrol, at least from Thursday to Saturday when the most activity occurs.
The plan also calls for the installation of reflectors in the street to improve illumination and the hiring of 4 official "cuidacarros" (car guards) to eliminate the informal guards that currently operate in the area.
