The Playa Buena Vista hatchery in Samara is preparing to release 218 leatherback turtles into the ocean. The project began in 2005 and since July has released 12,000 turtles.

Cesar Gamboa, General Director of Health, announced that because of restrictions imposed by the Commission on Crowd Control, no fireworks will be permitted in enclosed areas, like the bull ring, in Zapote. One reason for the restriction is an accident that ocurred last year in the fair.

Transit Police will be on the lookout in 164 patrols throughout the metropolitan area during and after the tradtional “Tope” today. A tope is a parade on horseback and the Chrismas Tope is the largest in the country.
Paseo Colon and Second Avenue will be closed to traffic at noon to make way for the parade.
