On Friday the TDMA cell phones were useless for over 4 hours from 9 am to 1 pm due to a failure in a data circuit in the central exchange. The data circuit feeds all the computers in the network, in order to generate the signal.
According to Claudio Bermudez, assistant manager of Telecommunications at ICE the damage only affected phones in the Central Valley, South Pacific and Central Pacific. ICE is investigating the cause of the failure.
