Costa Rica’s boys team is playing in the under 17 World Cup in Peru. On Saturday they tied China 1-1. On Monday, they tied two-time world champ Ghana 1-1. In both games the Ticos led 1-0, but gave up the tying goal after less than 10 minutes.
Since Ghana and Peru tied 1-1 on Saturday and China beat Peru 1-0 yesterday, the Costa Rican team controls their destiny. A win against Peru on Thursday will get them into the second round. With a tie, they would depend on a China win against Ghana and if they lose they will not qualify.

Abel Pacheco, Costa Rica’s president, announced today that he does not know when (or if) he will send the free trade agreement to Congress. He stated that first he will submit the report made by the Council of Notables, to the “commissions of the government’s councils”, and then he will decide when to send the agreement (or treaty).
“CAFTA could be a strong melody for growth, or it could be a horrible cacophony”, Pacheco said.
