This morning, we still had no water. Apparently a large pipe ruptured, but the repair was completed by the time I got home this afternoon. I don’t know how long it would take to go to Puntarenas, buy something, and return. My dog has garapatas. I didn’t know what this was in English, but I asked the vet if my medicine protected against them, and he said yes. However, I had written an email to Bayer, the manufacturer of the medicine, and they told me it worked on fleas, but not ticks. The dictionary said ticks, in Spanish, was ticks. But, Raz continued to have a problem with garapatas. This morning, since I couldn’t clean, (no water), I searched the internet for a solution. Turns out, ticks are garapatas. I went back to the email from Bayer, and the gentleman there had recommended another medicine for ticks. As I was leaving for Puntarenas to buy this medicine, Marvin showed up. He always likes to go to Puntarenas, so we went together. I bought the medicine, and since it was noon, and Marvin’s birthday, I bought him lunch at Chico the Chino’s restaurant. On the way home, we had a few more drinks at the Cuenca, one more at la Lucha and two more at el Jardin. I still don’t know how long it takes to go to Puntarenas, buy something, and come back, but it sure is fun shopping with Marvin.
When I got home, I shaved Raz again, and put on his medicine. I sure hope it works, because he has a major infestation of ticks, or garapatas. Insects seem to be the biggest negative factor here. I sit outside or in the house at night with no lights. It seems to reduce the number of insects in the house. Sometimes, I leave the bathroom light on, and before I go to bed, I spray the bathroom and close the door. That substantially reduces the number of bites I receive in bed. The screens keep out the mosquitoes, but the perujas, or no see-ems, come right through. If it gets too bad, I will put cheesecloth over the screens. And of course, there are the scorpions. I still find the odd one at night, and am ever cautious of them. I worry more about Raz than me, and check the floor where he is laying whenever I get up in the night.
Anyway, tomorrow I will resume my cleaning chores. We have water again, hopefully the dog is on the road to recovery, and tonight will pass without major problems.
