The men, ages 20, 24, 25 and 27, were living in separate houses in Pavas and are suspected of working together to rob nearby businesses using violence, Guevara explained. Police received two reports of robberies by the group, though they suspect they are responsible for more robberies in the area. Upon raiding their houses in Pavas yesterday, police discovered and seized nine cell phones, a Chevrolet Nova, $2,000 and two car radios, according to a statement from OIJ. Police had been searching for the alleged robbers for about a month. The four arrested face charges and are in police custody, the statement said. The object of the meeting is to “increase European trade and investment in Costa Rica,” and Costa Rican business owners will have the opportunity to establish commercial alliances, the statement said. The meeting will be held at the San José Palacio hotel from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Business owners interested in the event can visit the Web site of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Costa Rica at www.coeccr.com or call 258-2025, 225-6255 or 225-7725. -Tico Times Return To Top Of Page Click here to subscribe Historic Spanish Ship to Arrive To Limón By Amanda Roberson Tico Times Staff aroberson@ticotimes.net Spain’s Juan Sebastián de Elcano, a ship used for training the country’s military and Coast Guard, is scheduled to arrive to the Caribbean port of Limón tomorrow, according to Spanish Embassy spokeswoman Katiana Arroyo. The ship first set sail in 1927, and since then it has traveled more than 1.5 million miles. Each year it makes a six-month voyage with a crew of Spanish Coast Guard trainees, who receive classes while on board. Spanish King Don Juan Carlos and Prince Felipe de Borbón are among those who have trained aboard the Elcano. The ship was named after Spanish sailor Juan Sebastián de Elcano, who traveled under the command of Portugal’s Hernando de Magallanes in 1519, according to a statement from the Spanish Embassy. Elcano took over control of the ship when Magallanes, along with most of the crew, died. He led the ship on the first journey ever around the world, the statement said. The ship will remain stationed at Limón until Sunday, and the public may tour its interior from Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Return To Top Of Page Click here to subscribe Trial for Death of Costa Rican Journalist Begins The trial of Uruguayan businessman Eugenio Millot, accused of hiring hit men to kill Costa Rican journalist Ivannia Mora in 2003, began yesterday in a San José court. Millot was Mora’s boss at the magazine Estrategia y Negocios until a few weeks before her death. Colombians Eduardo Serna, Freddy Cortés, Nelson López, John Nievas and Eduardo de Jesús Martínez are also suspects. They face a sentence of 20-25 years in prison under the Costa Rican penal code. Ninety-six people are scheduled to testify in the trial. Mora, who specialized in economics, was shot Dec. 23, 2003 by two men on a motorcycle as she was driving down a street in eastern San José.
