Escazu, like many other towns in Costa Rica, has its own Farmers’ Market. We call it “la feria del agricultor” or just “La Feria”. Go native and do your fresh fruit and vegetable purchases at la feria. You will be saving yourself a lot of money.

The Escazu Farmer’s market is held every Saturday on the south side of the San Miguel de Escazu church from 4:30 am – 1:00 pm, find out the exact location on Google map. Make sure you go early though because the best stuff gets sold first.

Early in Costa Rica is between 6:00 and 7:00 and not at 11 as many foreigners think. We get up early and go to bed early so if you want to do your Escazu vegetable shopping at the feria, you now know what to do.

The best thing to do when you are the mother of a 2 year old and you are 6 months pregnant is to move to Costa Rica! I know it sounds absurd but it was the best decision my husband and I have ever made. When I first told people I was moving I got one of two reactions. The first being " You can't. You're pregnant" (as if I had forgotten). And the other was " I wish I had the nerve to join you".

Now my family, friends, and doctors were rightfully concerned. I had my first child when I was only 26 weeks pregnant. When he was born, he was a tiny 2lbs and 1oz.

20% of the population living in Escazu is born abroad. Escazu has therefore the highest percentage of population born abroad of the Province of San Jose. This does not mean that those who live in Escazu are mostly foreigners but shows that there is a high percentage of foreign born.

They might be born from Tico parents though. No census speaks where they were born or where their parents came from, nor about their nationality. 

I don’t know if this makes Escazu real estate different than it does elsewhere, but it is a fact that those who plan to buy or rent a home in Escazu have higher expectations from this home than they would if the home would be somewhere else in the Central Valley.
